Remaining silent is meditation

Meditation is an experience that no body can teach you. Neither can we go to deep into meditation suddenly as it’s a practice and a habit that is formed over a period of time.

Meditation means, to remain silent. Though, thoughts keep appearing. If any thought is present then it’s not meditation.

How to remain thoughtless? How to remain silent in spite of thoughts? Mind can cling to picture or a mantra.

Do we have a mantra for silence? There is no mantra for silence.

However, there is a technique to create silence.

The technique is as follows…

  • When a thought comes don’t resist it. Say inside you, ‘this is my thought’. Thus, you disassociate yourself from the thought.
  • Then ask the question to yourself, ‘Can I let go this thought?’ It will go. You can also say “release”. Then it will go. Now there will be at least a one second gap between two thoughts. This is equivalent to one hour of meditation. In general, we never have a gap between thoughts as we might have ten thoughts in one second.
  • If you do not want the “let go” step, then form your own mantra or word. When we say that mantra, we create a gap between the thoughts.
  • When a thought comes, interrupt it with the mantra and you will become silent. When another thought comes, say the mantra once again.

The silence thus formed in between chanting the mantra is meditation.

Pranic and physical bodies has to be in coordination

Our pranic body and physical body have to be in coordination. Otherwise, we can’t meditate.

If we regulate our breathing pattern or do pranayama then they will be in coordination. This is because both breathing and prana have the same origin. When breathing is regulated, prana is regulated too.

Pranic body has to be clear of impurities

When the pranic body is clean, then the meditation can be done successfully.

Why so much impurities in the Pranic field?  It’s due to the mind. Our own sadness and worries create these impurities.

With the help of pranayama, one can clear these impurities.

How to acquire a good breathing pattern?

  • When you meditate, place the index finger at the base of the thumb on both the hands. Breathing will get deeper and you could meditate properly, as shallow breathing spoils the meditation.
  • Don’t take the index finger straight away move your finger to the base of the thumb. First touch the tip of thumb with the index finger. Then after some time, move the index finger to the middle of the thumb, and finally to the base of the thumb.
  • Don’t do it mechanically. Feel the breath with a conscious awareness.
  • Observing your breathing is also a good way to meditate. This is part of meditation known as Vipasana meditation.

Do the space meditation now

  • After learning to breathe well, do the space meditation.
  • Be aware of the space between the chair you are sitting and the wall in front of you. Don’t look at the wall. Instead look at the space between you and the wall.
  • This is known as ‘Space Meditation’.
  • Keep the eyes open throughout.

Chanting mantra during meditation

Week One Experience

  • Just observe and release those thoughts.

To understand meditation, we need to understand different types of brain waves

It is important to understand types of brain waves that each one generates throughout his life time.

1.      Beta Waves

When one is active, the brain generates Beta waves.

2.      Alpha Waves

When one is relaxed and calm, the brain produces Alpha waves.

3.      Theta Waves

When one is more creative, Theta waves are generated.  To access creative part of the mind one should be in Theta state.

4.      Delta Waves

Delta has the longest frequency.  During the deep sleep, Delta waves are produced by the brain.

Colours Effect on Chakras

Colour can offset negative stuff/situations. For example during Ragu Kalam (time) – the time when Ragu has a bad effect on us, if you wear a green dress then it can’t affect you.

Any problem in life indicates that one or more of our seven Chakras are imbalanced. Each of these Chakras emits certain colour and when there is a problem, the colour that is emitted from the Chakra will be less. This shows that the Chakra has less energy.

Let us see an example. A person weak who is weak willed and less assertive will have less energy in his Solar Plexus Chakra. If he prays to Sun God, to get the required colour Yellow and inhale it – visualizing the colour from Sun, then he can develop a strong will power.

Chant “Om Rum Bum Lum Dum”

This will also reduce your sugar level and therefore good for Diabetic patients.

  • Rum activates the Solar plexus chakra – connected to Liver, Stomach and pancreas, and the fire is kindled to digest the food.
  • Bum activates Spleen.
  • Lum activates the Basic chakra. It will also activate absorption and assimilation functions in the digestive tract.
  • Dham is seed word for comfort. After eating if you don’t feel any comfort – then it means your sugar level is more.

Instructions

You can’t chant this mantra for others. It’s better for them to say it for themselves.

You will be able to digest any type of food. You can chant it anytime – not necessarily after taking your food

Chant EEJOE to handle gas problems. It will also bring down your head aches. After eating food, if Belching happens, then it means the Apanan – a type of prana that supposed to flow down, is coming up.

Healing chakras through mantras

Let us first see the purpose and functioning of chakras as well as what happens if they don’t function properly. In the next section, we shall see what mantras we need to chant to keep them in good order.

Functioning of Various Chakras

Basic chakra or Mooladhara – is at the base of the coccyx.

If I have a feeling, “I want to settle down in life”, then it means the Basic chakra is not working properly. Therefore the energy from basic chakra to you will be very less too. Chakras always produce energy. In this person’s case, it shows he hasn’t received it properly from chakras.

Another in front of us, one and half-inch below the naval is Hara Chakra or the Sex Chakra.

If there is a relationship, then it’s formed due to Hara chakra – which directs us towards friendship and creates the relationship for us. If you have a craving for lot of food then it means your sex chakra is working more – imbalanced.

Third chakra is above the belly – Manipura or Solar Plexus chakra. This is the chakra of self-identity. There is a big gap between Hara and Manipura chakras.

If energy in solar plexus is more than it means the feeling of “I” or ego is more. Anything might go from us, except for pride and ego – which comes from the Solar Plexus chakra. Thanks to this chakra we know the purpose of our lives and it shows our identity too.

The fourth is the Heart chakra. Between it and the Solar Plexus chakra, the gap is less. Heart and solar plexus chakras are close to each other. The former is our soul and the latter is our mind.

If there is no ego and pride, then heart will open up. The heart chakra is always reminding us not to have pride and ego. “Don’t think I or me, but think about we and ours” – is the message of solar plexus chakra. One can change their ego and pride into a life of compassion through heart chakra, which makes us to be in love.

When we have love, our language will be made of love and compassion and expressed through our Throat Chakra.

In reality, we will talk about few things, while hiding so many things. If we think only good things then the throat will expand and then whatever we say will become a mantra.

Our lives are decided by these chakras.  When these chakras are healed, and function properly, then the sixth chakra – the third eye chakra will open automatically.

When the third eye chakra is open, one will come to know that he is already divine.

Opening Chakras through Mantras

Mantras outwardly look ordinary. However, they can do lots of things. It can lead us to live our lives better. They activate the energy centres/chakras as well. Chant the mantras below to activate, normalize and balance the chakras:

Om Lum Namaha – Basic Chakra

Om Vum Namaha – Hara Chakra

Om Rum Namaha – Solar Plexus Chakra

Om Yum Namaha – Heart Chakra

Om Hum Namaha – Throat Chakra

When other chakras open, the third eye will automatically open up.

Relationship Mantras

If you chant the below mantras together they will increase the harmony and stability in family. Harmony and understanding will improve in your personal life. Five minutes of chanting will do.

If mantras are said alone they will be affect the concerned organs.

  • If you want to create a harmonious environment – the space around you – chant OM HUM NAMAHA. Prana is activated.
  • If you want others to be surrounded in harmony OM YUM NAMAHA. Plasma is activated. 50 % of our blood contains plasma. It’s the transport mechanism for excretion – for example carbon dioxide and toxins.
  • If you want to understand others and others to understand you – OM RUM NAMAHA. It improves blood circulation.
  • If you want to relate with others – OM VUM NAMAHA. Improves Communicate with others.
  • If you want to strengthen your relationship – OM LUM NAMAHA. To improve the flexibility and muscle strength, and after making somebody as your friend you want to strengthen and stabilise relationship.

Meditation on Bach Flowers

This narration by Mangala Ayre explains how the Meditation CD on Bach Flowers, created by Naran S. Balakumar, had a calming effect on a three-year old child suffering from love pangs, due to separation from his grand-parents.

I am a teacher in a Kindergarten. I have been a student of Naran S. Balakumar, for the past 10 years. A few months back, a three-year old child, who is generally quite cheerful, became withdrawn. He had sudden bouts of crying and was looking very forlorn.

On speaking to his mother, I came to know that his grandparents, who had been with them since the child was born, had moved out of the house. The child was missing them so much. He was not sleeping well and refused to eat.
